Just like Grandma has her secret chocolate chip cookie recipe, we have a secret recipe or two of our own. It may not include chocolate morsels and loads of sugar, but it’s just as good! Since we’re filled with holiday spirit, we thought we’d go ahead and share some of our press kit ingredients with you.

Press kits provide the media, prospective clients, vendors, and others with promotional material about your product/service. Before we share all our juicy secret (not so secret, but still juicy) ingredients, you have to answer a few simple questions for us…

• Do you specialize in a unique product or service?
• Are you in the midst of launching a new idea?
• Is your company merging with another business?
• Have you tried to reach out to different media segments?
• Are you ready to tell the world what your business is all about?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we are ready to unzip our lips and share the ingredients to our press kit recipe.

Step One: Introduction Letter. There’s no need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees, because we know your product/service is hot! An introduction letter describes your company and shares why the recipient should explore the rest of your material.

Step Two: Background Information. Blend your company’s history into one mixing bowl… or document! You may want to add its current status, recent achievements, core mission, objectives and a touch of your company’s key players.

Step Three: Single Sheets. Take your specific product, glossary of terms, target audience, schedule of any upcoming promotions or events, images and a list of where the products are sold. Place them onto your single sheet.

Step Four: Press Coverage. Is that the oven beeping? No, it’s just all the buzz about your business! Include any positive business press coverage and previously distributed press releases.

Step Five: Extras. Now that the media has had a taste of your business, entice them some more with a sampling of your camera-ready logo art, a CD with high-quality JPEGS or videos and any extra collateral material they may need to understand just how delicious your product/service really is!

Enjoy!
